Make window graphics work for you
28th June 2017A radical new initiative
Window graphics were an important part of a ground-breaking initiative in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Calderdale Council are piloting a new service called ‘Better Lives at No. 42’. Based at 42 Market Street, Halifax, this aims to boost the health and wellbeing of local residents.
The shop had previously been a record shop and a tailor. It has been refurbished with a comfortable interior of sofas and coffee tables. The makeover also included graphics for the windows. These display well-being messages but also act as a privacy screen from passers-by.
What we did with window graphics
Fresco printed on optically clear self-adhesive vinyl. The wording was printed in lilac and backed up with white ink. This was then finished off with one more pass of lilac ink. The result was a ver effective solid but translucent graphic. The print is applied wet and squeegeed onto the glass. Although skilled work this is a simple process. It is important to make sure those windows are clean first!
More ways with window graphics….
Fresco have done plenty of other window work for retail spaces, universities, schools, libraries etc. Applied internally and reverse printed, clear vinyl can be used in a very effective way. To display a strong, vibrant image on glass it is made punchier with a layer of white translucent vinyl. This allows fine detail and text to be clear and legible to passers-by. Contra Vison, another window vinyl works brilliantly too. This media allows a one-way print. Tiny perforations allow the image to be strongly visible from the outside but practically invisible on the inside! We recently installed this at a Tourist Information Centre in Hebden Bridge. It has allowed the shop to catch the eye of the public. But once lured inside they still have a perfect view out!
